Juliet M Watt is an artist whose work spans both independent studio practice and community-based projects. Her work is rooted in connection, participation, and the stories found within everyday life.
Juliet began her professional arts practice in her forties, bringing with her a wealth of life and work experience. Before becoming an artist, she worked in childcare and later ran her own local tearoom, developing a strong understanding of how welcoming spaces can bring people together. This sense of openness and conversation continues to influence both her studio work and the way she approaches collaborative creative projects.
Alongside her community work, Juliet maintains an active studio practice and regularly exhibits her work. Her exhibitions reflect her interest in people, place, and shared experience, while her community projects create opportunities for others to engage with art in accessible and meaningful ways.
Juliet has long been actively involved in community life. She has served as a board member of a local charity, sat on the Scottish Children’s Reporter Panel, run a school PTA, and volunteered as a duty member at a local foodbank. These roles have strengthened her commitment to listening, advocacy, and working alongside people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Bringing together her artistic practice and her long-standing community involvement, Juliet creates work that values both individual expression and collective experience—whether in the studio, the gallery, or out in the community
“As an arts practitioner I am constantly playing and experimenting with ideas and materials and exploring how they make me feel. My work is intrinsically linked with an emotional desire to connect and share experiences with others. I unapologetically make work for other people- everything I make is a translation of an idea, a story, a memory that I need to share. From the outset, my process is underpinned by this desire to connect with whoever will experience the work, inviting them to engage in a sensory conversation. I always apply a playful and intuitive approach incorporating textures, tastes, sounds and smells that I feel are in line with the sensory language I am using in each piece.”
Juliet graduated Glasgow School of Art with a BA (with Distinction) in Sculpture and Environmental Art in 2023, as well as holding an MA in European Civilisation from Glasgow University.
Her work has been shown at various exhibitions in Glasgow, London and selected for the inaugral Emerging Artists Exhibition at the Pittenweem Arts Festival.
